Cary Charles is a man of many guises; clinical hypnotherapist, artist, photographer and author among many other things. All seems to centre upon his endless fascination with consciousness and memory, explored both professionally and in daily living. Across his entire portfolio, works are varied and focus in particular upon rich sensory recollection and interaction. He is more interested in the feeling of observation than the exact form that is being observed. It isn’t so much about the illuminated bridge he paints, for example, as conveying the intense excitement he felt when looking at it.

His first gallery sale came at the age of 17. Since then, in addition to various forms of creative expression, he has worked in both orthodox and alternative healthcare settings. If asked, he will share that the main observation taken from these experiences regards the amazing relationship between body and mind, and the role this relationship plays in health and personal development.

This amongst other things prompted him to spend three and a half years working in the NHS before embarking upon the wonderful journey that is clinical hypnotherapy. As Cary explains, “During the early to mid 90′s, I worked with hundreds of clients in order to help them recall and restructure their life-stories, the basic assumptions and beliefs that guide them in every decision they take. In recreating their personal narrative, each client opened the gateway to a more useful and empowering future . . . Although I wasn’t as familiar with the formal techniques of clinical hypnotherapy as I am now, the awareness that we can each gain much by reaching beyond our limited ideas of self has always been within me. I have never been one to accept habitualized limits when greater things can be achieved simply by using the brain in more creative and exciting ways. Why settle for less, when you are more? As much as I concentrate on uncovering realisations and insights, I also focus intently upon making it all very practical, so that it always enriches everyday life.”
